Top 25 Precision Agriculture Companies in the UK | 2026

UK precision agriculture companies raised £21.8m across 15 deals in 2022 — the sector’s all-time peak — and have since maintained annual investment in the £12–16m range, with the first quarter of 2026 already delivering £10.7m across eight deals. Across all time, UK precision agriculture companies have raised £126m in equity funding tracked by Beauhurst, with 76% of that total arriving since the start of 2020.

We’ve ranked the top 25 precision agriculture companies by total equity raised (all data sourced from the Beauhurst platform).

An overview of the precision agriculture sector

Precision agriculture covers companies developing technology that helps farmers manage crops and livestock at high resolution — using sensors, satellites, robotics, software, and biological inputs to optimise yields, reduce waste, and improve soil and animal health. UK precision agriculture companies span crop monitoring and data platforms, microbial and biological inputs, autonomous field robotics, vertical and indoor farming, aquaculture monitoring, livestock management apps, chemical-free weed and pest control, and satellite positioning systems for agricultural use.

Beauhurst tracks 85 active precision agriculture companies in the UK, up from 29 in the final quarter of 2015 — a 193% increase over the decade. Together, these companies generated £1.41b in turnover according to latest financials and support an estimated 4,972 employees across the UK. Across all time, precision agriculture companies have raised £126m in equity funding tracked on the platform, making this one of the smaller sectors we’ve covered by total capital deployed. The 2022 peak of £21.8m has not yet been surpassed, though deal volume has held steady at 15–21 deals per year since 2021, indicating sustained appetite for early-stage investment even as round sizes have moderated.

Key findings

  • Bactobio tops the ranking with £15.9m raised. The London-based biotechnology company researches bacterial chemicals for agricultural and therapeutic applications, and accounts for 13% of all UK precision agriculture equity raised to date — a relatively dispersed top spot compared with the concentration seen in larger sectors.
  • Foamstream (£15.8m, London) in chemical-free weed control takes second, followed by Innovation Agri-Tech Group (£11.2m, South East) in aeroponic indoor farming, KisanHub (£8.74m, London) in farm data platforms, and Biographica (£8.44m, London) in AI-driven gene editing for crops. The top five account for 47% of all UK precision agriculture equity raised.
  • London hosts 11 of the top 25, followed by the East of England (four) and the West Midlands and North West (two each). The top 25 spans 10 UK regions including Aberdeen (DDK Positioning), the East of Scotland (Loch Long Salmon), and Northern Ireland (farmdrive), reflecting the sector’s reach into specialised agricultural clusters across the country. The East of England’s four entries — FA Bio, ProCam, P.E.S. Technologies, and TraitSeq — anchor the Cambridge agri-bio cluster.
  • Venture-stage businesses dominate the top 25 with 15 entries, followed by four growth, four seed, one established (ProCam), and one zombie (Folium Science). Notably, the full sector contains no dead companies across its 75 staged businesses — a distinction not shared by any other sector we’ve covered.

Methodology

To produce this list, we identified all companies that are:

  • Headquartered in the UK
  • Operating in the ‘Precision Agriculture’ Beauhurst industry classification
  • Listed as ‘Active’ on Companies House

We’ve then ranked these companies by total equity raised.

The future of precision agriculture in the UK

UK precision agriculture investment has plateaued at the £12–16m level since the 2022 peak (£21.8m), even as the count of active companies has tripled to 85. The first quarter of 2026 brought £10.7m across eight deals, suggesting the sector is on track for another year in the established band rather than breaking out into the larger funding rounds reshaping adjacent categories. The complete absence of dead companies across the entire sector — unique among the sectors we’ve covered — points to genuine product-market fit pockets across crop monitoring, biological inputs, and farm robotics, even where individual companies have stayed compact.

Crop monitoring and data platforms are the largest sub-cluster, with KisanHub (£8.74m), Agrivi (£4.59m), Messium (£4.70m), Omega Crop (£2.75m), Deep Planet (£1.84m), Optimal (£1.68m), and Fotenix (£766k) building software and sensing for yield optimisation, soil analysis, and satellite-driven crop intelligence. Microbial and biological inputs form the second pillar, with Bactobio (£15.9m), Biographica (£8.44m), FA Bio (£7.63m), Folium Science (£903k), TraitSeq (£744k), and Sun Bear Biofuture (£720k) pursuing biofungicides, biofertilisers, gene editing, and precision fermentation. A third cluster centres on physical hardware — Earth Rover (£4.41m) in field robotics, Innovation Agri-Tech Group (£11.2m) in aeroponic farms, Light Science Technologies (£1.59m) in agricultural lighting, P.E.S. Technologies (£4.38m) in soil sensors, and AgriSound (£1.97m) in beekeeping hardware.

With this in mind, it’s possible that — depending on broader economic conditions, food security policy, and the pace of climate adaptation in UK farming — precision agriculture follows two paths: a small number of category leaders breaking into growth-stage funding rounds, and a broader cohort of venture-stage companies converging on profitable niches without raising large amounts of capital. Whether the sector eventually produces a breakout scale-up comparable to those seen in adjacent food-and-agriculture categories, or whether it remains a constellation of focused, capital-efficient businesses, will depend on how quickly UK farmers adopt precision tools at scale and how policy supports the transition.
