That’s why we’ve decided to explore some of Germany’s top manufacturing companies using our new international data. Whether it’s producing high-performance vehicles, revolutionary machinery, or high-tech fintech solutions, these companies are not only shaping Germany’s economic landscape but also impacting industries worldwide.

Methodology
Our analysis focuses on German companies in the manufacturing industry.
To be included in our list, companies must be headquartered in Germany, listed as ‘Active’ on the German Handelsregister, and be classified within the manufacturing industry using Beauhurst’s industries dataset.
The data for this report was primarily found using the Beauhurst platform, and is accurate as of 9 January 2025.
Companies have been ranked by turnover, and in most cases turnover from 2023 has been used. In a few exceptions, 2022 has been used where 2023’s accounts haven’t yet been filed by the company. Only companies with turnover filed from 2023 or 2022 have been included in the ranking.

ZF Friedrichshafen, commonly known as ZF, is a global technology company specialising in driveline and chassis technology, as well as active and passive safety systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and industrial applications.
In 2023, ZF reported a turnover of €47.6b, a 7% increase from 2022. The company employs approximately 168,700 people worldwide and operates 162 production locations in 31 countries.
In the first half of 2024, ZF’s sales were around €22b, reflecting a challenging market environment. To address these challenges, ZF has announced plans to reduce its workforce by up to 14,000 positions in Germany by 2028 in a plan to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.

In 2023, the company’s turnover grew by 9.2% from €51.8b in 2022, and the company has seen a huge increase of 35% from 2021.
Despite challenges in the Chinese and German markets, Daimler Truck continues to focus on innovation and expansion in the commercial vehicle sector.

The Defence and Space division of Airbus, headquartered in Germany, contributed €11.4b to this total.
To support its growth, Airbus announced plans to hire an additional 3,500 employees in Germany in 2023. The company’s German facilities are integral to its operations, focusing on the production of components such as vertical stabilisers and carbon fiber reinforced plastic structures for various aircraft models.
